Generosity & Three-Year-Olds

To be fully transparent, I often act like a three-year-old when it comes to my finances. My son, Cohen, is three and a half, and we are in the trenches of teaching him to share. When Cohen doesn’t share with his little sister or friends, he and everyone else don’t have a good time. As his dad, I want Cohen to see that sharing with others is actually more fun! And it's true, when he shares and takes turns with a toy, he is happier, proud of himself and his friends enjoy being around him more.

There are always excuses to not be generous with others—starting a business, having another kid, inflation, etc. These are all my excuses in fact! Being a dad has taught me so much about God’s heart for me. I know that the Lord wants for me what I want for Cohen—to experience the fullness of His joy and to share that joy with others. As Richard Foster so eloquently puts it, “No act goes unnoticed, no matter how insignificant or small. . .like the proud mother who is thrilled to receive a bouquet of wilted dandeloions from her child, so God celebrates our feeble expressions of gratitutde.”

At Long Planning, I can help you come up with a generosity plan that you can feel comfortable and excited about. I can partner with you to experience the joy in glorifying God with your resources and blessing others.
